The Beginning
Every church is first formed in the heart of God. Before the beginning of time, God had a plan, a purpose and a destiny for Cornerstone Church. Cornerstone first became a church in 1937 led by Oren & Desma Lucas. One of the earlier locations of the church was an old brick building just off Shorter Avenue. Cornerstone moved to the current location in Garden Lakes in 1987. The campus originally included the Chapel, which was the main sanctuary, the Children’s Building, which was a Life Center complete with a kitchen for church dinners, and the Campus House, which was the parsonage. The Auditorium was built in 2001 as a youth facility but was later converted to the main sanctuary for weekend services.
Our senior pastor, Stephen Daniel, first joined the staff of Cornerstone as Children’s Pastor. He has served in many different positions at the church including Youth Pastor, Associate Pastor, English Campus Pastor, and even custodian. He became senior pastor in February 2024.
Past, Present, and Future
Over the years, there have been many changes at Cornerstone Church, but all the events of the past have helped to form Cornerstone into the church it is today. We are proud to have such a rich history at Cornerstone, but we also know that even greater things are to come. We are excited to see what God has in store for Cornerstone in the future, and we are so glad that you are a part of that future.
Together, we’re striving to become the kind of church described in the Bible, where there’s relevant teaching, heart-felt worship, honest friendships, constant prayer, and compassionate care for those in need. Everything we do at Cornerstone is a reflection of our heart to care for people – people of all economic, social, and ethnic backgrounds. In short, we’d like to have the kind of contagious Christianity that can influence and encourage the entire community, one life at a time. With so many uncertainties in the world today, we want Cornerstone Church to be a safe place where you can have a life changing encounter with God.
